Rashard Mendenhall is a Jackass

Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers RB

Just when I thought Rashard Mendenhall was done wiping the egg off his face, he released this clarification to his comments today.

There are two problems I have with his clarification. First, he never explains what he meant by saying that we only heard one side of the story. He actually posts the controversial tweet in his clarification statement and then fails to address it. Amazing.

Second, he says that he is just trying to get us to 'think.' Who is this guy, my college professor? Listen buddy, if someone is gonna make me think about something, it's not going to be a football player. Well, actually, football players do make me think but it's usually in the form of: What was that guy thinking?

Like when a wide receiver brings a loaded gun into a nightclub and accidentally shoots himself, or when a famous quarterback financially supports a national dog fighting ring, or when a running back defends an international terrorist over the internet. Wait a second.... damn it Rashard you got me.

  1. Sorry I haven't been contributing. I'm at my work conference in San Antonio this week, which is the busiest time of year from me. I know it is boring, but if you are interested, I will be live blogging on fiduciary responsibility all day the next two days on http://blog.fi360.com and on Twitter @Fiduciary360. I promise to be hear next week.

  2. I have to agree. Again this goes back to one of my previous posts, just because you can tweet, does not mean you should. The athletes always get crushed for their comments. It does not surprise me that they are foolish, I mean did he even complete his degree?

  3. I think some twitter comments are so impulsive. Some people should think it over for like 10 minutes then decide maybe I should hold off on this, but the first thought that crosses their mind goes right to twitter for all to see

  4. He would be better off just not saying anything else. He just keeps digging himself into a deeper hole.

  5. Champion dropped him as a sponsor

  6. Doesn't dropping him just give the name Champion more legitimacy?

  7. I didn't see his twitter posts, but I don't understand why anyone would take exception to his clarification. I was thrilled to see bin Laden killed and hope the Seals took their time with it so he suffered in the process. I found it appalling to see Americans celebrating in masses in the streets. We all can be happy a terrorist is dead, but we should have been more civilized - celebrating death in the streets is what extremists do, not a civilized western country.

  8. you don't understand why anyone would take exception to his clarification? You obviously didn't read his twitter posts or clarification. His twitter posts were ridiculous, taking on a conspiracy-like tone. Not to best himself, he posts a clarification that fails to address his ridiculous 'opinions.'

The least controversial comments were the ones addressing the people's celebration. That's why I didn't mention it in my post. Whether or not you agree with how people reacted to that terrorists death, you cannot defend the other outrageous comments Mendenhall made.

His clarification is even worse, it does not explain or attempt to clarify any opinions he made besides saying he was trying to get people think. If he is going to post a clarification to his comments, that is why I expect him to do. I don't expect him to just post some more rhetoric. I lost respect for this guy when he tried to justify his NFL is slavery comments, and I completely lost all respect for him with his most recent comments.

  9. Personally, I don't care what athletes have to say about anything. If Mendenhall can run the football or Big Ben can throw clutch TDs, they can join NAMBLA together for all I care. But, to focus in on what he said, the most ridiculous part is to say that bin Laden never got to tell his side of the story. He was a propoganda machine and made very loud statements in blowing up everything he did. If that isn't getting to tell your side of the story, then I don't know what is.

  12. I heard they had to melt down the afc championship trophies to make more shelves for all of the expected lombardi's coming in.
