Another Disappointment For Ovechkin and the Capitals

Another Stanley Cup Playoffs and another year for Ovechkin and the Capitals to wait. In this humble writer's perspective, the flop of the Capitals has to be the worst of all time. A number 1 seed, a top 2 player in the league since drafted, and the Penguins without Malkin and Crosby and Lord Stanley was all but engraved with the names of the Washington Capitals, but they were not just swept, but pushed off of the curb with an industrial street cleaner. Granted, Tampa Bay has arguably three of the top players in the NHL with Stamkos, Lecavalier, and St. Louis, but for a number 1 seed to not make it out of the 2nd round and lose 4-0 is a choke that the Heimlich maneuver could not save. It would not surprise me if Bruce Boudreau was fired for this, but at least he would not be caught on camera with BBQ Sauce on his face anymore.

This led me to my next topic about Russian players. I am partial to the Russians. There is something mysterious about them and they are truly great players. There was nothing more intimidating than the Soviet Union team in all red, but when it comes to the NHL I can't see the Russians being the type of players to lead their teams to Lord Stanley and Ovechkin is just the most recent example. Every great Russian who has won has been second in the team hierarchy if they won, otherwise just a great scorer. Yzerman/Federov, Messier/Kovalev, Datsyuk/Zetterberg, Bure, Kovalchuk, the list goes on. I love the Russians, but they just can't bring home the cup.

  1. Haha I love the joke I have to steal it and put it on my facebook page... I agree about the Russians. Think about it, every year there are always great Russians in the regular season but when the playoffs come around, the Russians fail to show up. Proof? The first Russian playoff MVP was Evgeni Malkin in 2009. All of those great Russian players before him never came close.

  2. Oh and Boudreau is definitely gone. I wonder if they will let him fly home on the team plane.

    The Washington Crapitals.

  4. The Crapitals are the first No. 1 seed since conference format started in 1994 to be swept in the first or second round of the playoffs.

  5. That was a shocker to see them swept, this round is turning out to be a downer after an incredible opening round. Detroit is down 3-0 and Philly is down 3-0

  7. I expect Boudreau to be fired, but all the sports radio talk here seems to be clearing him of any responsibility for the year after year postseason collapses. I don't care who coaches the team, as long as I get to enjoy them not advancing in the playoffs. In my opinion, when you get swept in the second round, it's equivalent to losing in the first. you didn't even show up. The other thing I love here, is all the fan and sports radio talking-head BS about how sorely the Caps missed Wideman and if he hadn't been hurt it may have been different. right, the pens played better playoff hockey without crosby and malkin, and craps fans are whining that wideman is the missing piece of their puzzle.
